The story

Soviet Union, 1929. To keep the factories running every day, the country switched to a continuous five-day week. Every worker got a rest day, marked by a color or a Roman numeral, while everyone else kept working.

Husbands, wives and friends were often given different days, so families rarely rested together. By the summer of 1931 the plan was dropped for a six-day week with a shared day off.

The dog was never consulted. He took every day off.
